Benefits and drawbacks of Static Web Pages.
A static web page is always composed of the same information. The content is displayed the same way every time the page is accessed via a web browser. Static web pages’ information is not changed frequently. Static web pages are created using HTML scripting, containing tags, text, elements, and imagery. A static web page can be considered an informative web page, as its purpose is to allow the viewer to view the information/content. The page information/content does not change, and can not be altered by anyone but the page owner.

Static web pages are easy to put together, and can be done quickly. They can even be created by someone with low level or limited html skill. Static web pages are also cache friendly, and are a good model for how a web site will look from a browser.
On the downside, static web pages are difficult to maintain and update, especially if and when the page becomes large. One downside of static web pages is that they can’t be globalized. A different format, or a dynamic web site is a better option for having the web page globalized. There is no interactivity with a static web page. It’s just like the page of a book, simply a page, and all you can do is look at it. The web page must be updated/edited by the page owner, and the page owner alone.
Here is an example of what a static web page might look like.

Benefits and drawbacks of Wikis.
There has been much debate on whether or not wikis are for the better or worse of technology. When password protected, wikis are terrific collaboration tools that allow a “defined” group such as a project team or business team to create, edit and revise their information and documents. With internet and phone access, everyone in one group can look at the information on a wiki simultaneously and discuss what they would like to edit. The benefit of wikis is groups can do so without being in the same location or sending numerous e-mails back and forth. Everything is in one central electronic database that can be accessed from anywhere that has the internet. When used properly, wikis can extremely beneficial and an incredible time saver.
Although the benefits are obvious, there are also several limitations of wikis. For starters, when not password protected, wikis can be edited by anyone who has internet access. This can also lead to false or misleading information that may lead to a loss in credibility. More importantly, you need to have at least a general grasp of the wiki-text “markup language.” This includes but is not limited to things such as lists, tables and links.
When used properly, wikis can be a tremendous learning tool.
